Year 2 Visit to the Discovery Museum
On Tuesday, Year 2 enjoyed a fantastic trip to the Discovery Museum where we learnt all about the Great Fire of Gateshead and Newcastle.
Read on to find out more!
We began the day by learning about life in the Victorian times and the story of how the great fire started in Gateshead. We heard about PC Ewart, who was the first to discover the fire, and about Mr Bertram’s chemical factory which was next door to where the fire started. The children joined in with a fun workshop retelling the story of the fire through a puppet show.
In the afternoon, the children had time to explore lots of artefacts from the Victorian era and learn about what they were used for. We particularly enjoyed dressing up!
We all had a fantastic day and we are looking forward to learning more about the great fire of Gateshead and Newcastle back in class.
