Welcome to Year 5

Year 5 have had a great first week back at school!
For English, when the children entered the classroom, they discovered several scraps of fur, a red cap and a large pair of scissors cordoned off in a 'crime scene.' They used their best detective skills to figure out that the items might belong to characters from 'Little Red Riding Hood.' We began reading a story from 'Grimm Tales' by Philip Pullman which confirmed their suspicions! The children then showed off their fantastic acting skills by answering questions in the role of Little Red Riding Hood, the wolf and the woodcutter and acted out a scene from the story.
In design technology we have been looking at bridges. We made different types of bridges, including a beam bridge and an arch bridge, to test their strength and stability. We look forward to making wooden bridges later in the term.
We have made a great start in all subjects this week and the children have impressed me with their hard work and enthusiasm.
Take a look at some of the pictures below!
