The Great Fire of Gateshead and Newcastle!

We have had an exciting visitor this week in Year 2. Richard Stevenson, otherwise known as "That History Bloke" joined us for a morning where he walked us through The Great Fire of Gateshead and Newcastle via a brilliant history workshop.

The morning started by learning about Victorian life, including the many jobs that were around at the time. The children explored different areas and were able to hold and wear real artefacts from the time! We then recreated what the quayside would've sounded like during the Victorian period.

After breaktime, Richard showed the children what the quayside would've looked like and explained how the fire started and progressed. As a class, we became the buildings that were on fire and demonstrated how the fire was eventually put out. To end the morning, we finished with a song, detailing the events. Overall, we had a fantastic, interactive experience that the children fully enjoyed and took a lot of learning from. Please enjoy looking at our morning.
