Year 4 at the Coast

Year 4 enjoyed a superb and memorable trip to the coast, bringing their classroom learning to life.
The day began at Marsden Beach, where pupils eagerly explored the coastline and identified many of the features they have been studying in geography lessons. It was wonderful to see the children confidently spotting and discussing cliffs, caves, stacks, and headlands, deepening their understanding through first-hand experience.
As part of their fieldwork, the children also carried out a mini-investigation, carefully examining what they could find within a small section of the beach. They discovered a variety of natural materials using their observation skills to think about how coastal environments are shaped and sustained.
From Marsden, the group enjoyed a scenic walk along the coastline to South Shields. Along the way, they compared the two locations, noticing similarities and differences in the landscape, beach composition, and human activity. This helped them to develop their geographical enquiry skills and think more critically about how different coastal areas can change.
To round off the day, the children had some well-deserved playtime on the beach, enjoying the fresh sea air and each other’s company. It was a perfect way to celebrate a day full of learning, exploration, and fun.
Well done, Year 4, for your enthusiasm and excellent behaviour throughout the trip—we are very proud of you.
