Arts Day - Celebrating Joy

On Thursday 18th June, children from Nursery to Year 6 took part in a whole-school Arts Day based on the theme of ‘JOY’.

The day began with an inspiring tutorial from British artist and designer Morag Myerscough, who showed the children how bold colours, patterns and shapes can be used to spread happiness and positivity. Inspired by her work, the children were challenged to create their own ‘Wall of Joy’.

Throughout the day, classrooms were filled with creativity as the children transformed blank pages into vibrant works of art. Using a range of colours, shapes and patterns, they expressed their own ideas of joy and produced unique designs full of imagination and personality.

The children also enjoyed taking part in a poetry workshop inspired by children’s author and poet Michael Rosen. Through a short lesson, they explored the joy of poetry using sound, rhythm and performance.

The session encouraged the children to experiment with language, play with words and discover how poetry can be both creative and fun. Using a simple poetic structure, they created their own imaginative lines and enjoyed sharing their ideas with others.

It was wonderful to see the children’s confidence and creativity grow as they celebrated the power of words and expressed themselves through poetry.
