Life On The Wall!

On Tuesday, we visited the remains of two Roman forts. Our day started with a visit to Vindolanda, where the children engaged in an activity to investigate the different rooms found amongst the site. After the children found the hidden message on their worksheets, it was time to climb to the top of a reconstructed turret tower where we searched for incoming invaders. Pretending to be a Roman soldier deemed hungry work. So, after the fort it was time for a short visit to the on-site museum before lunch.

After lunch, we marched back to the coach where it was a short journey to our second venue of the day, Housesteads. Once we arrived at Housesteads, we ascended the hill and investigated the site with help from our informative tour guide Felix. The children finished the day with a short film about the site before heading back down the hill and onto the coach to school.

Despite the weather, the children demonstrated a fantastic attitude and willingness to engage in their learning. Please take a look at our pictures from the day.

We have enjoyed our first couple of days in Year 4. During our PSHE lesson, we investigated our digital footprint by creating a footprint populated with our online activity. We discussed how to stay safe online and what to do if we needed help.

Year 4 Life on the Wall!

In Year 4 this term, we have been learning all about the Romans and what life would’ve been like in Roman Britain. To bring our learning to life, the children were able to visit two Roman forts at Vindolanda and Housesteads. Our morning began with an investigative look around Vindolanda where we were able to experience what life was really like on a Roman fort. After an interesting browse around the museum attached to the fort, it was time for lunch.

After lunch, we took a short journey along the Roman road to Housesteads where we faced the long, uphill walk to the fort. Witnessing this structure first hand was a fantastic way to bring the magnitude and scale of a Roman fort to life. The children then drew comparisons between the two forts and finished the afternoon off with a short film about Roman life.

The children displayed excellent behaviour all day and had a wonderful time.

KS2 Cross Country

Yesterday, all children in KS2 took part in our annual cross-country event on the Temp Field. Each session started with a warm-up lead by our fantastic sports leaders, who were confident and clear in their delivery and got the children’s bodies ready for exercise. All Children demonstrated a fantastic attitude towards completing the event and were rewarded with points for their house teams. Please see images from our morning below.
