Earth Day is a global event celebrated every year on 22nd April with the aim of bringing people together to raise awareness about environmental issues and inspire action to protect our planet.
The theme for Earth Day this year was "Our Power, Our Planet", which highlighted the importance of individual and collective action in caring for the environment. It reminds us that small everyday choices made by schools, communities and families can have a powerful impact on the future of our planet.
This year, our school marked Earth Day by focusing on an important issue – plastic pollution – and exploring how we can all make a difference.
Across the school, pupils took part in lessons and discussions about how plastic waste harms our oceans, wildlife, and natural environments. They learnt about the effects of single-use plastics and discussed simple ways to reduce waste, such as recycling more and choosing reusable items.
To bring their learning to life, the children created artwork using recycled plastic materials. Bottles, lids, wrappers, and packaging were transformed into colourful and imaginative pieces which carried a powerful message about protecting our world whilst proving that even small actions can make a big difference.
