Welcome to Year 1

Year 1 have settled back into school really well and have made a fantastic start to the new school year! We have been busy learning our new class rules and routines, and the children are becoming increasingly confident and independent in following them.

We have also enjoyed exploring the new areas of our classroom and finding out about all the exciting learning opportunities available to us. It has been wonderful to see the children playing, exploring and learning together.

In English, we have been enjoying the story Room on the Broom. We have created our own story maps to help us sequence the events and retell the story in the correct order. We have become very good at remembering the important events and characters and have enjoyed bringing the story to life through our learning.

In RE, we have been learning about the Jewish festival Rosh Hashanah, which celebrates the Jewish New Year. We learnt about some of the traditions associated with the festival and discovered why apples and honey are eaten together. The apple and honey represent the hope for a sweet and happy new year. The children really enjoyed trying apple dipped in honey and sharing their thoughts about the different flavours!

We have also taken part in our first cross-country event! The children showed great enthusiasm and determination, trying their best and encouraging one another.

What a fantastic start to Year 1! We are looking forward to all the exciting learning still to come.
