Windmills

Year 1 have been developing their design and technology skills by designing and building their own windmills.

Using card, tape and glue, the children then constructed strong, stable structures to support their windmills. They explored how flat pieces of card can be transformed into 3D shapes and discovered why cylinders are particularly strong structures.

Next, the children assembled the turbines and axles, learning how these components work together to help the windmills turn. They showed great perseverance and problem-solving skills as they brought their designs to life and tested how well they worked.

To finish the project, the children evaluated their windmills, identifying what worked well and considering how they could improve their designs.

They have worked hard to develop their engineering skills and have produced some fantastic windmills!
