Year 4 Step Back in Time to Roman Britain

Year 4 enjoyed a fantastic trip to Vindolanda and Housesteads Roman Fort, bringing their learning about the Romans to life.

At Vindolanda, the children explored the remains of the Roman settlement and learned more about the daily lives of the people who lived there. They were fascinated by the archaeological discoveries and particularly enjoyed visiting the museum, where they saw a vast collection of Roman artefacts, including shoes, jewellery, coins and everyday objects.  It was wonderful to see how the objects left behind can tell us so much about life in Roman Britain.

Our visit to Housesteads Roman Fort gave the children the chance to experience what life might have been like for a Roman soldier stationed along Hadrian’s Wall. Exploring the remains of the fort, they discovered where soldiers lived and the important role it played in defending the Roman frontier. The Roman toilets were certainly a memorable talking point!

Year 4 represented the school brilliantly throughout the visit and returned to school with lots of new facts, wonderful memories and an even greater understanding of our Roman topic.

Thank you to our volunteers for helping make our visit possible!
